Throughout my career, I have provided support across various settings, helping clients navigate mental health issues, substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I employ evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-centered Therapy and Mindfulness, to help clients gain insight into their emotions, develop effective coping strategies, and achieve sustainable, positive transformation.

My mission is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients of all ages feel valued, understood, and empowered to make the meaningful changes they seek. Driven by compassion and empathy, I am dedicated to supporting my clients through the aftermath of trauma and helping them embark on a journey of self-discovery so they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I hold the perspective that human suffering arises when we have difficulty reconciling the difference between our reality and our expectations, which can evoke complex emotions that may lead to disconnection from ourselves in the form of anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. Engaging in therapy can provide a space to lighten your heart and open up about what happened to you so you can gain clarity on the direction you would like to move forward from here.

As a registered clinical counsellor, I work with adults and youth with anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, and relational discourse. I also work with women and men who are victims of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse or have had adverse childhood experiences. I provide counselling for concerns that include self-esteem issues, anger and stress management, emotional dysregulation, addictions, grief and loss, bicultural identity crises, family conflict, acculturative stress, and life transitions. I work with families experiencing inter-generational conflict due to acculturation, intercultural tension from changes in family structure and dynamics, and immigrants experiencing mental health issues. I am fluent in Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi, which allows me to help individuals overcome language barriers.

My approach is integrative and holistic with a culturally responsive, developmentally sensitive lens influenced by an understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain and CBT as my main modality. This approach allows me to gain insight into a client’s unique developmental experiences, trauma responses, and belief systems. I also draw from DBT skills training, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapies, attachment, EMDR, somatic experiencing, family systems, and Gottman Method.

I provide a safe, warm, and cozy environment for our sessions to connect and discuss your concerns. The goal of our therapy sessions together will be to help you develop the mental fortitude needed to heal, achieve personal growth, and enhance your well-being. Moreover, we will work on developing self-compassion, which will allow you to move more easily through difficult times in the future and attain a sense of inner peace and empowerment to advocate for your well-being. I truly believe that each individual is the expert on their life and holds the potential to heal through their inner strength and wisdom to improve the quality of their life. With validation, compassion, and trust in the therapeutic relationship, I can help individuals heal from their past and support them in navigating through emotional complexities and life transitions, enhancing their quality of life and well-being.

My name is Ashiya Khan-Sequeira. I am an Indo-Fijian Canadian, born in the tropical islands of Fiji.I immigrated to British Columbia with my family at the age of eight. I am proficient in Hindi and English.

For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and couples in their journeys of self-awareness, personal growth, and healing. My work is grounded in an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed framework. I draw from my Adlerian training and integrate the principles of client-centred counselling through mutual respect, encouragement, and collaboration.

I take a holistic approach to counselling with a strong focus on the mind body connection and overall wellness. I have training in somatic therapy and often work from a bottom up approach, supporting clients in understanding how experiences are held in the body and nervous system and how this awareness can support regulation, safety, and healing.

My ongoing postgraduate training allows me to integrate a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Lifespan Integration, Mindfulness based approaches, Brief and Solution Focused Therapy, and Expressive and Art Therapy.

I also provide couples counselling from an attachment based framework and have Level 2 training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. In my work with couples, I support partners in recognizing attachment patterns they may be reenacting in their current relationship. Together, we explore these patterns, identify unmet needs, and work toward building healthier, more meaningful emotional connections rather than remaining stuck in unhelpful relational cycles As a woman of colour, I am deeply committed to supporting the healing and empowerment of racialized and marginalized communities. I strive to provide a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment where clients can feel heard, seen, and understood. I work from a culturally responsive lens, view each person’s culture and lived experience as a strength, and specialize in supporting individuals and families impacted by intergenerational trauma. I am also a proud ally to the LGBTQ2+ community and am committed to providing affirming and inclusive care.

I work with concerns including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, past or recent trauma, racialized trauma, grief and loss, family and relationship challenges, as well as self-esteem and identity development. I believe counselling can be a powerful tool in fostering hope and helping individuals discover their inner strengths and resources.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy unwinding with Netflix, staying active through running and yoga, and spending meaningful time with my partner of over 22 years and our three children, ranging from young adults to a teenager. .
